| By: Chris While I wouldn't call this a big "upgrade" the check in girl moved us to a strip view room on a higher floor. She specifically said "I can't accept tips for upgrades" but was willing to accept tips for "services rendered". | ||||||||||

I had previously folded the $20 around my credit card and placed my license on top. When Ann proceeded to begin checking us in, I asked her at the very beginning, just after greeting her if "there were any complimentary upgrades available, perhaps a Tower Deluxe room?" With no hesitation, she found a clean and ready Tower Deluxe room for us. The trick worked like a charm! | ||||||||||

| By: Spent several days in Vegas, so I had 2 opportunities for upgrades. I checked in at the Mirage around 2pm and it was really busy. I was a bit unsure about handing over the sandwich with so many people around, but I knew that there was nothing to lose. The woman at the desk was a pro, she knew exactly where this was going. At first I asked about free upgrades she said the cost would be $100 per night Then I slid her the sandwich and the price dropped to $30. We got to the room and it was amazing. It was a double upgrade as they have smaller suites. At over 1,200 square feet I have absolutely no regrets about using the trick. This is a mandatory practice when going to Vegas. Aria: Unsuccessful at Aria (they were sold out on a Saturday), fortunately they didn't keep the $20. | ||||||||||

Slipped her my credit card, license, and 20 and she went out back, came back and made a few calls and informed me I was upgraded to a Penthouse! Room wasn't ready for 2 hrs, so we got free tickets to the wildlife area. She didn't even hide the $20. It was all very professional and matter of fact! | By: Jeff Nothing to it. $20 sandwich got us 24th floor, with North-facing view in the East Wing overlooking volcano and Venetian across Las Vegas Blvd. Great room, great view ... but maybe would request South-facing view on East Wing to overlook The Strip from north to south. (Mirage is at the northern end of the new strip). Very nice to have the limited-use elevators, as well. Never had to wait more the 5 or 10 seconds, if any. | ||||||||||

Girl at desk said she'd see what she had available. She did some typing and said, "I have a room cleaned and ready now with a view of the strip and volcano." Perhaps if we had taken that as a cue to say we'd be willing to wait for a better room we could have gotten the Deluxe, but she didn't really give us much of a chance and acted as if the view WAS an upgrade. The "view" does include the volcano (sort of) as well as the less-than-impressive Casino Royale--the view of the Bellagio fountains is completely blocked off. We're not convinced this is an upgrade at all... We'll still have a good time, but very frustrating to see the $20 go to total waste without even the fun of flashing slot machines and free drinks. | ||||||||||

She asked for my CC and DL, and as I handed them to her I said, "I was also wondering if there any opportunities for any complimentary upgrades." She was very discreet, check a piece of paper, made a phone call, and gave me a Tower Deluxe with a choice of options (bed type, smoking, none, etc.). A friend of mine was also checking in, and after I told him it worked, I explained to him what the $20 trick is. He ran back to the counter after checking in, smacks $20 on the counter in front of the gal that checked me in asking for an upgrade since she "just gave my buddy one!". | By: Carl Came in under casino promotion for a week. Had a $50 between my dl and cc since I was staying for a full week and it worked like a charm. At first she said no upgrades were available and they were totally booked up but I think it was because she assumed I was looking for ablatger suite. The suites haven't been upgraded and I heard mixed thongs buy I liked the tower delux private elevators, high floors, and nicer bathrooms -- so less than $10 a night for the nicer room was a sml price to pay. When I booked my room and asked about upgrading to the tower delux room I was quoted $50 a night additional charge over the normal room.. Definitely not worth it to pay that for 6 nights upgraded for a $50 sandwich is more than reasonable. | ||||||||||

She didn't verbally acknowledge the $20 but I know she saw it. She had my CC, DL and the $20 on her keyboard. She clicked around for a minute and said, "How is a higher floor (19th) with a volcano/strip view?" I said that would be wonderful. I was really nervous about trying this, but I'm so glad I did! He made a quick call and I got the room. For 5 nights it was well worth $20. These rooms have quick private elevators to the 24th and 25th floors, big bathrooms with jet tub, separate glass shower and 2 sinks. King bed only. I had a great Strip view to the south and a pool view. | ||||||||||

Totally worth the $20 for the private elevators alone, not to mention the free champagne that appeared in our room later that night. Also, not sure if it helped, but I left two shirts in the closet during my stay--- called them up after I left and the mailed them to me free of charge. Not sure if it was due to my higher "status" since my room was better... but who knows. I will make sure I always do the trick from now on when I go to vegas! | ||||||||||

I had my sandwich ready and when she asked for my ID, I made small talk and asked her if there were any upgrades available. She said she would check & we continued w/ small talk (Telling her my wife & were celebrating our ann). She did some computer checking, called a couple people and was able to get us an upgrade. We were put on the 25th floor but she didn't have any volcano view rooms available. It would have been nice to get the volcano room, but w/ us checking in later I was happy there were upgrades left. Another couple (staying 4 days) we came w/ checked in beside us and did the same thing, but they were only able to get upgraded to a 17th floor room but got champagne for their ann. All in all it was easy to do and well worth the 20 dollars. The upgrade in the bathroom along (between the 17th floor & 25th floor) made the $20 trick well worth it. The 25th has double vanity's & walk in shower which was very nice. | ||||||||||

Simply smiled to the room clerk, handed her the "sandwich," got a bright smile from her when she saw the $20, and answered her question if I was returning to the Mirage with the truth: This was my very first visit to LV, and I wanted it to be memorable. She remarked that I had been booked for a Tower Suite. I agreed, but stated that a Penthouse Suite would really make my visit perfect. She left saying that she'd be right back, then returned with the welcome news that I'd been upgraded. And it was really a superior visit. I'd recommend the $20 trick to anyone. | ||||||||||

So I went to the Mirage Hotel and I didn't have a $20 but I wanted to do the trick. I asked the man at the counter for change so I could do the trick and he was upset with me because he had to go to his friend to get it. Anyway he came back with change and I took it and gave him the $20 and said thank you. But he thought I was giving it to him for making the change. So then I said can I have a free room and he said no. Then I asked for an upgrade. He said no and I lost my twenty dollars. Then I wasn't able to book any room because all I had was a debit card because I don't have credit in this country. So I didnt get any room and I'm wondering if there is a trick to get my twenty back. | ||||||||||

| By: From Canada Eh My friend and I took the wives. We checked in together, with a $50 showing and asked the Gentleman at the counter if there were any upgrades. I even mentioned the good ol 24 or 25th floor. He obliged and the $50 was gone before I knew it. One room was ready, and the other was not. We went to check the one room, and the view was of the mountains - we went back down to ask for a strip view, and he had us both come back in a few hours. We came back, and both ended up with Strip View/Volcano View, a bottle each of Champagne sent to the room, and multiple night club passes. He also said if we needed anything else, let him know. Although the upgrade could be good at $20, together my friend and I each spent $25 but showing $50 looked a lot better I'm sure to the front desk clerk. I will try this every time in Vegas. It can't hurt - I'm 1 for 1!! | ||||||||||
