The Luxor is located at the south end of the Strip. The entire hotel has an Eygptian theme and is shaped like a giant pyramid.

| By: milpie Was given a choice of either Spa Suite, or a Player's Suite, I chose the Spa Suite. | ||||||||||
| By: Cory Got to the Luxor around 3pm-ish. Stood in line for roughly 5 minutes before being called for next in line, walked up to an older gentleman (upper 40's/lower 50's) wearing a black suit & tie, gave him my check-in info, and he asked me for my credit card & ID, which I did along with a $20 sandwiched between the two. I then kindly told him I was there on my birthday, which I truely was, and if he had anything more comfortable perhaps with a fridge? He then made some discouraging noises as he slid the $20 underneath his keyboard. He then started typing for a few minutes and then finally said that the best he could do was give us the Pyramid Spa Suite for at no extra charge. I quickly accepted considering I originally booked the standard Pyramid room. So all in all that extra $20 got me a WAY bigger room, 2 plasma tv's a hottub and a fridge! | ||||||||||
| By: Andrew Woman was really nice about it and I think she would have done it, but the hotel was sold out due to CES - a large convention. | ||||||||||
| By: Kim Came for Halloween weekend. Tried the $20 trick and received a discounted room upgrade. $80 more for the suite for the whole weekend. Usually the upgrade costs $100 per night. Success! | ||||||||||
| By: Susan We were told initially that there were no King rooms available. Then the gal went over to speak with her supervisor and we were given a Deluxe King in one of the towers. Room was much larger, newer, nicer than the rooms in the pyramid. According to their website prices, it was a $370 savings. Free internet was included. Best deal of our trip. | ||||||||||
| By: Pretender Asked for an upgrade, gave 20$. The representative said there where no upgrades available and gave me the money back. After some seconds she said only thing she can do is an upgrade to tower room for free! | ||||||||||
| By: John Asked the check-in girl, "Are there any free upgrades tonight?" while checking in late on a Friday night in September. As I did this I had the 20 dollar bill prominently sticking out from between my passport and credit card. The check-out girl immediately replied, "Why yes there is" and upgraded me to one of the newer, bigger West Tower room with a 42 inch TV and a tub. While doing this she took my passport and card but placed the 20 on the desk without saying anything. At the very end of the transaction she picked up the 20 and acting as if she was just noticing it for the first time said, "Oh thank you". Job done, worked a treat. | ||||||||||
| By: James T We booked a basic room, and when I handed the clerk my passport and cc, there was a $20 bill between them. I asked about a complimentary upgrade, and she asked me what I said. I repeated it, and she checked on the computer. She said yes, no problem, I have upgraded you to a Spa Suite. It was in the tower, but much quieter than the rooms in the Pyramid. The suite was huge, very comfortable. We had some friends in from the Mandalay Bay, and they said our suite was better than theirs, which cost more than $100 a night more! Very pleased with the result, would recommend this to anyone! | ||||||||||
| By: marco Went up to desk around 3pm, lady behind the desk did not hesitate to start typing. Simple and easy, got upgraded to a tower room away from all the smoke in pyramid. Great impovement!!! | ||||||||||
| By: Cam We reserved the least expensive room, a Pyramid Deluxe Queen Room to the tune of $160 for 3 days. Checked in at around 3:30am. Only one front desk agent working at that hour, a very nice (and lovely) Japanese woman. Gave her the $20 bill between the credit card and ID, inquired about any complimentary upgrades. She laughed nervously, and said no, returning the tip. However, a moment later, she said she'd go ask her boss about an upgrade. She returned, and informed us that we'd been upgraded to a Pyramid Spa Suite. | ||||||||||
| By: Kara I did the sandwich, asked for complimentary upgrades and she looked at the money and said, 'Oh we dont do that...' and gave me the money back. I said 'Oh okay.' and took it back, thinking I had been unsuccesful, but she said 'but I can put you in the towers no problem.' We ended up on the 17th floor, and although the luxor doesnt get a great view anyways we had a fairly good one. Would definately try this again. | ||||||||||
| By: Fabian Trevelyan Handed a $20 tip and asked if there were any complimentary upgrades. She was surly but offered us a tower room "which is slightly newer" | ||||||||||
| By: Steve Booked in, had the 20 under my id. She knew what was going on, she took my money and looked up for an upgrade. Went over and asked her supervisor and all was well. Not sure how much I really saved as I had booked discounted online. But happy in the end :)) | ||||||||||
| By: Ellie The twenty dollar sandwich worked again at the Las Vegas Hilton! Loved the Murphy Bed Suite. Wes, mid-30's, Caucasian male, st the front desk gave us the awesome upgrade and a gracious thanks for the tip. The room made the trip worth it and I will try the $20 sandwich EVERY time! Thanks for the front desk tip! | ||||||||||
| By: nomi Arrived at the Luxor around 1pm Friday. Waited in line shortly and was called up by a hotel representative. Handed over the sandwich with $40 , was told ' sorry, we cannot do upgrades on weekends' and was handed my money back. she gave us check-in keys for the standard room so I left. While waiting for the elevator in disappointment, I said to myself let's try one more time. so I walked up back in line, came across a different rep , handed over the room keys with $40 tucked in the envelope. Asked if I can get a better room because I wasn't satisfied. She said , sure lemme see what I can do. instantly offered the tower deluxe suite for 4 days and 3 nights, also upgraded a friend of mine which was in a separate room all for a $40 sandwich. | ||||||||||
| By: Adam I went through the usual check-in process and when I needed to hand over my passport and credit card, I sandwiched the $20 bill in the middle and asked if "there were any complimentary upgrades." Without blinking, she (middle-aged, super nice asian lady) offered a room in the east tower and comped the beer fridge I had requested for my room. Nothing wrong with a newer, nicer room and a complimentary beer fridge! | ||||||||||
| By: Amanda I gave the lady at the reservation desk my license, credit card, and $20 and asked if any complementary upgrades were available. She looked at her computer for a few moments and then advised me that they had two rooms available in the East Tower...and then told me that I didn't need to tip her and gave me my cash back. It was definitely worth it. | ||||||||||
| By: Amanda I slipped the 20 between my license and my credit card and asked for a complimentary upgrade. Not only did I get upgraded to a nicer room, but the lady helping me gave me my 20 back! | ||||||||||
| By: Patrick slipped a $20 between the i.d and credit card. Originally asked for spa suite but was unsuccessful on that since they were all booked so settled with the tower suite. Still a hell of a lot better than the standard room | ||||||||||
| By: GABRIEL The lady (at the counter) was very receptive, and took the $$$, but was not able to find an upgrade and thus returned the twenty. It WAS SUCCESSFUL at Crazy Horse at MGM Grand (to see Dita Von Teese). We were upgraded from last row, to FRONT ROW, CENTER. My best advice: Be descreet about it. I used it successfully at Mon Ami (Paris) to bypass a very busy brunch wait, and at the Stratosphere for Superstars ($15 moved to front row just off center). | ||||||||||
| By: Buster Hymen Went to the players club check in and originally had a regular tower room and handed clerk the $20 sandwich and politely asked if any complimentary upgrades were available and got upgraded to a beautiful tower suite with a strip view. Worked like a charm. | ||||||||||
| By: Desmond I'm 2/2 now! Put the 20 in the Sandwich and got an older Chinese lady. See looked at it and didn't say anything and when I inquired about complimentary upgrades "I hear your players rooms are nice", she walked away for a minute and came back and apologized none were available but she gave me a room almost twice as big, a one bedroom with mini bar and huge bathroom with Jacuzzi tub! Totally worth it! Going back in April hopefully to go 3/3!! | ||||||||||
| By: Ace This was as smooth as silk! Occupancy wasn't nearly has high as we expected during New Years so our checkin clerk simply pocketed the $20 and moved us from the old, loud Pyramid rooms to the bigger, quieter Tower room! Very nice and comparable to the PHo rooms for 1/4 of the price. | ||||||||||
| By: James That worked great, thanks for this web site. Did just as stated, $20 between drivers license and credit card. Great complementary upgrade from a standard pyramid room to a player deluxe room in tower. | ||||||||||
| By: Greg Got upgraded from the standard pyramid room to 1 bedroom tower suite and the daily resort fee was not taken from myself which was good as the Luxor had daily cost of $13 for two bottles of water and the US Today delivered to your room. | ||||||||||
| By: Matt I tried to upgrade on a busy weekend unsuccessfully. I used a $50 bill!!! and politely explained that I was rooming with the bachelor, on a bachelor party weekend. I then asked if there were any complimentary upgrades available. The receptionist was a black lady, whose name I think was Donna. She put the $50 back on the counter so quickly, it seemed as though she was disgusted by the gesture. She told me that it's against policy to accept tips. I paid the $60 total for the tower upgrade, which was still worth it, but was no suite. To add insult to injury, another member of our group got upgraded via the trick, to a tower room, with a $20! | ||||||||||
| By: Maggie We handed the $20 to the clerk between the credit card and the ID, asked about any available upgrades, and she said "Oh! Well, let me see what I can do." She typed away for a while, then said "I'm giving you a complementary upgrade worth $50 a night in the West Tower, and I'm waiving the reservation fee, since you gave me a tip." We ended up staying in a gorgeous suite for $70 a night. She apologized for the fact that it was on the 5th floor, but we were absolutely thrilled. | ||||||||||
| By: OCJ I gave the front desk person a 20 dollar sandwich with my ID + CC and asked for a complimentary upgrade. He said he would "see what he can do" and worked on the computer and spoke to his supervisor. He then revealed he had an availability on the top floors in a spa suite over looking the strip with 2 beds. Perfect! He booked us in, made some keys, and I thanked him as he pocketed the 20. My company thanked me as we now had 2 rooms, 2 tvs, 2 refrigerators, a pimp view of the strip, and a spa. After an awesome night of clubbing, I soaked in a warm bath over looking the gorgeous neon lights of the Las Vegas strip, kicked back and relaxed, enjoyed a smoke, and a cold drink. Perfect end to my night. Excellent results! | ||||||||||
| By: Tim I had the twenty in between my ID and credit card, and asked if there were any complementary upgrades available. She said he'd check, then she noticed the twenty. She said, "Oh, a little side action," and excused herself to go check with someone. She came back and upgraded my to a very nice suite. | ||||||||||
| By: Cynthia Use the typical basic procedure. Slipped my $20 between my credit card and drivers license. Upgraded me from the basic pyramid room to the basic tower room. Tower room includes both soaking TUB (not spa tub) and stand-up shower. Same size room as the pyramid though. (ASKED FOR SPA TUB SUITE AS WELL BUT WAS NOT SUCCESSFUL IN THAT.) | ||||||||||
| By: BH Checked in at around 8:00 pm. Gave the $20 sandwiched between my driver's license and credit card as asked if any complimentary upgrades were available. The clerk instantly offered an upgrade to a Tower Room with a king sized bed. Super easy. Thanks for the tips! | ||||||||||
| By: Ric Not sure about check in date.. was Spring Break of 2009. It was our first time to Vegas and my wife and I loved the idea of the whole pyramid theme so we booked the standard room with the intention of using the trick. When we arrived, they had put us in a tower room and told us it was an upgrade.. rooms were bigger, newer and better. I asked if there was anything left in the pyramid and she said no. I didn't even bother with the sandwich, we just went to the room. Tower rooms at the Luxor are nice... but inconvenient so after I got lost about 4 times trying to get back to the desk, I found a different clerk, middle aged lady.. looked important. Explained that my wife and I would REALLY like to experience the pyramid and just handed her the twenty. She put us in the Pyramid Spa Suite. Awesome... only disappointing thing was that it used a regular elevator but it was still a score. | ||||||||||
| By: Codemonkey Got upgraded to a west tower room which was a bit nicer. Waived the $5 phone call fee. | ||||||||||
| By: Jessica Slipped lady a $20 inbetween my CC & ID. First time asking about upgrades so I didn't even ask. When she saw the $20, she put it off to the side. She said she didn't have any upgrades or suites avaiable. I asked about buffet comps and she said she didn't have access to those. She returned the $20. So far I'm 0 for 2. At least this lady was nice. Mandalay Bay was by far a worse tipping experience. | ||||||||||
| By: Craig Stayed at the Luxor 3/7/09-3/11/09. I simply asked if any complementary upgrades were available and was upgraded to a high floor room in the west tower with a great view of Excalibur/NY-NY. Tipped $20 after receiving my keys. | ||||||||||
| By: Ron L Placed the 20 on the desk and asked the clerk if we could get an upgrade. He never looked up from his screen and informed me an upgrade would be $50 extra per night. I pocketed my 20 and thanked him for checking. I think the clerk we had was new on the job, as he kept asking another clerk what to do. The good news was that we did end up getting comped for the room, make sure you ask at the players club desk before you leave if they can comp you. | ||||||||||
| By: SHammy Tried it - she said we were in the best room possible and that upgrades were not available. I took back my 20, and that was that... Having said this, her boss was behind her (which I realized later) | ||||||||||
| By: Brandon Upon check-in, used the $20 trick by folding it up, handing over the sandwich, and asking if there were any complimentary upgrades. She politely said that, "We do have upgrades available but they typically incur an additional charge." I coyly asked again and after an uncomfortable silence, she look at me with a grin and said, "I'll see what I can do." At that time she found the twenty hidden between my license and credit card, said, "Well... that's nice." Went to typing away on her keyboard and said, "I think I have something here you'll like." Much to our surprise as we walked up to our room, there were double doors. We knew we were in for a treat. It worked even when using a special low rate package code. The one we used was their Stay With Us and Save Package for $59/nt. and a $50 gas/flight rebate. | ||||||||||
| By: Louis I told my friend to try it but it did not work at the luxor, he slipped the 20 underneath his credit card and asked the question and the lady said we dont do that | ||||||||||
| By: Kyle The front desk rep seemed a little startled and confused at first. But when I asked for an upgrade she knew right what to do, took my $20, and gave us an upgrade to a Tower Room | ||||||||||
| By: Jonathan I wrapped the $20.00 around my credit card and put it on the counter next to the monitor because initially the desk clerk just wanted my name and did not even look up. I asked for a room on a high floor with a good view, I already had reserved a spa suite and did not want a different room, just a great location. She told me the room we had was on the 10th floor in the back. I asked if there were other options available. At that point she glanced at the credit card and the $20.00. We were upgraded to the 20th floor with a pretty good view of the strip for a 6 night stay. | ||||||||||
| By: J MAHONEY We were already comped two tower delux rooms, but slid a $50 to our clerk to see if we could get two tower suites. She did some checking and informed us that she would love to upgrade us to a tower suite but they were all sold out except for our last night there. | ||||||||||
| By: Steven W I did not like the Luxor but at least they gave us an upgrade. | ||||||||||
| By: tess The $20 was not returned to me and I was given the 8th flr of the east tower. After I made it through the maze to the east tower elevator, and the next maze from the elevator to the room, I discovered a very drab, regular room, with low ceilings, low lighting and a view of the roof and excal. I returned to the desk and insisted on another room, was moved to 20th floor of Pyramid, which was better.. but not an upgrade. The rooms need renovating, won't stay there again. | ||||||||||
| By: Andy Also tried the 20$ trick on my first visit to Vegas. I didn't get an upgrade because of the Nascar race. All rooms were reserved during that weekend. | ||||||||||
| By: Donna Worked like a charm. This was the first time I had ever done it. | ||||||||||
| By: Frederico Worked like a charm. This was the first time I had ever done it. | ||||||||||
| By: Zac The woman knew exactly what was going on. This was the best she could do, but she was definitely trying to get us the best possible. | ||||||||||
| By: belledejour* GREAT! It worked! Checked-in Aug 13th, late at night, baggage lost and so tired..I wasn't sure about success, but I tried your tip: greetings, a smile, id and 20 $ to the boy at the reception, asking if there was a chance for an upgrading. He told me to wait a moment to check and answered yes, he could give us a Pyramid Spa Suite, if we agreed...sure we did! Then he asked if I wanted to change the 20$ in smaller bills, but I told him it was for his kindness: he was happy and so were my boyfriend and I. Thank you for your advice! | ||||||||||
| By: Charlotte We went to check in at 11:00 and the line was a little long and no one was in the VIP line. So, I told my boyfriend to stay in the regular line and I would see if the guy at the VIP desk would check me in. I went over and he checked to see if I was on the VIP list, which I didn't expect to be. He said I was not but he would help me anyway. I slid my credit card, ID, and $20 across the desk and asked, "Would it be possible to get a complimentary upgrade?" He said he didn't see why not and he didn't take the money. When we left the desk I pushed the $20 off the counter and onto his desk. He said, "Thank you." I will definitely try this trick every time.... the room was well worth it! | ||||||||||
| By: Jess My friend slipped a $20 between her credit card and ID and informed our clerk that we were hoping for a room with a view. The standard room booking on the airline's website had given us just the standard pyramid room, but the clerk upgraded us to a room on the 14th floor of the West Tower, which offered a FANTASTIC view of the back end of the strip and hotels such as the Palms and the Rio. Hurray for success! | ||||||||||
