Got to TI around 1230. There was already a huge line for early-checkin. Got to the counter, and I had a guy named Scott. I gave him the ID and credit card sandwich and asked 'Do you have any complimentary upgrades?' When he saw the $20, he asked what were you looking for. I told him a higher floor corner room with a panoramic view. We would have been on the 15th floor in just a standard room. He was very grateful afterwards. From what I could hear and observe, most of the other workers were doing upgrades too! Def worth it! |

booked the standard delexe room and gave 20 as I was booking. Was upgraded to the 32nd floor with a strip view for the 3 nights. I was told it was a 40 dollar a night upgrade but when checking online its a 10 dollar a night upgrade so i would say its still worth it. |

We had two rooms reserved, checked in Friday at around 3pm. Since we had two rooms, I did $20 x 2 for $40. I slipped the $40 between my ID and friend's credit card. (Friend has his CC on the room). The clerk upgraded us to rooms that were close to each other (no connecting door but right next door) with a nice Strip view. I was hoping for a better upgrade but I think it was a very busy weekend. |

We checked in on a Saturday night around 8pm. I presented the $20 bill w/my ID and credit card when I was asked for it and I said, "Are there any complimentary upgrades available?" The guy said he'd check, and offered us a strip view room w/two queen beds on the top floor (the Penthouse Floor). We were also given a complimentary bottle of champagne, which was a nice start to our trip. Also, during the course of the week, we received a message on our phone offering us Buy 1, Get 1 Free tickets to see Cirque du Soleil Mystere - I'm not sure if that had anything to do with our upgrade or the floor we were on. All in all, the TI was a nice hotel, and the room was very enjoyable. :) |

Desk clerk apologized for not being able to get me a suite (it was Saturday night at 8:30PM) or a room with a strip view, but she did give us a cathedral-ceiling deluxe room on the top (36th) floor. Can't argue with that. |

handed the desk clerk $40 with my license & credit card.she must have been new cos she went to the manager to ask what to do.they said they were out of suites but gave us a corner room with a really nice view of both sides of the strip.we told to call room sevice and we did that as soon as we checked in and received a free bottle of champagne.we were happy with our upgrade. |

This trick worked very well. It was super busy checking in so I wasn't sure it would work. We had 3 nights booked in the cheapest rooms available. I wrapped the $20 bill around a credit card, asked her if it was possible to get adjoining rooms for both our rooms. It took a good 15 minutes to find a good room but she ended up upgrading us to strip view, on penthouse floor with adjoining rooms & 2 queen beds each. The rooms were great! Super clean with vaulted ceilings with the view of Trump tower & Fashion Show Mall. At Treasure Island the 31st to 36th floors have their own elevators so we didn't have to use the same ones as the rest of the "lower level" roomed guests! Worked like a charm!!!
I'd be curious to see how much a $50 bill would get us. Haha! |

My husband wouldn't do it, so I decided to give it a try. It worked like a charm.
Young twenty something desk clerk, smiled very big when she saw the $20.00 after I asked for complimentary upgrade, and happily went about finding us a small penthouse with a panoramic view from the 33rd floor. She indicated that it would have cost an extra $40.00 a night.
So we were very happy. The room was very nice and clean and the bed was so comfortable and cleaned everyday with fresh sheets!

Made the request and the girl apologised that she couldn't upgrade to a suite because the were fully booked and we were staying a whole week, but managed to find a strip view room on the 33rd floor. Very nice too, worth the extra $2.80 per day |

When my wife and I arrived to check-in, I told her that I was going to give this a shot. She stayed away as I approached the desk with the $20 already in place between my ID and credit card. After giving my name, I asked if they had any complimentary upgrades available as I put the $ and cards on the desk. He said yes there is! He proceeded to put us on the penthouse floor in a corner room with a view of the strip in both directions. We were also given complimentary champagne service. We were able to stay in the room our entire stay - 3 nights. It was a great way to start our trip for a mere $20. |

I walked up to the girl and told her it was our honeymoon and put the $20 with our credit card and asked if any complimentary upgrades were available. She said she would check. Then she frowned and said oh you booked with hotwire. She then said no we do not have any available. The next day I went back to the front desk and tried again this time using my hotel key with the $20 bill wrapped around it, telling the new girl it was our honeymoon and we had checked in the day before. She again said she would check and also mentioned that we booked through hotwire and said nothing was available. I was very disappointed as the trick had worked for us before and it wasn't even our honeymoon. |

Worked, but wished it hadn't. Got a panoramic room on the 22nd floor overlooking the siren's cove/north strip. Music from club at night was so loud, we gave up the room and moved back to a standard room - which actually had a better view. Still, always fun to try as a first day gamble. |

Ok, so we basically tried this trick twice as we drove to Vegas and tried to check in at 6am but were told to wait until 'early' check-in around 11am. In any case, at 6am we tried this with one dorky nerdy clerk who left the money hanging on the table forever but did give us a 'better' view... this guy was a real dork though, so it's better not to even bother because he looked as he was about to pass-out from the fear of being caught taking the $20!
Anyway, so the next morning (well, same morning but it seemed like the next because we spent three hours sleeping in the car!) we went back and saw a huge line (so much for the 11am earliest check-in - this was at 10.30am!)... anyway, finally made it to the front and got some confident guy and we slipped him the money and he upgraded us to a CORNER room with a beautiful view of the strip (Venetian, Wynn, Mirage and TI Pool)... all in all, worth the total $40 we spent. I guess it worked =)
Caution: watch out for the nerds!!!
Ps: We also got a complementary bottle of champagne which we politely declined!! (ahh, straight-edge baby!) |

Was offered a strip view first with 2 queen beds when King was booked. Politely declined first offer and was offered the room with floor to ceiling windows with bed choice. View of Venetian, South Strip including the Fountains and Mirage.
Also offered two glasses of champagne "bought by the desk" from room service. Wait was 90 mins when we called so we didn't bother. |

Tried the trick and the girl actually laughed at us. Part of the problem may have been that, after approaching the counter, we realized that the desk manager was standing a couple of feet away. She was wearing a different colored jacket than the rest of the staff. |

Booked original room through a discount flight/room package. (Orbitz) Asked for any complimentary upgrades and got this upper floor room w/o showing a tip. Tipped the very friendly lady anyway. Late check-in, slow period, may have had something to do with it, however. Super friendly staff from check-in through check-out. |

This was my first time trying the $20 trick and I was a little apprehensive. When checking in we at first received a standard view room on a lower floor. I explained that we were there for a special occasion and asked if they did anything special for birthdays. The clerk said she would send up a bottle of champagne. I then asked if there were any complimentary upgrades available and slipped a $20 bill to the person checking us in. She smiled, did some magic on her keyboard and said she could upgrade us to a strip view room on the 32nd floor w/ a key required elevator. She said the room was normally $30 more a night. She also arranged for us to call room service any time we wanted the champagne. The view from the room was fantastic overlooking the pool and great strip view.

I checked in on a Thursday afternoon, and tried the $20 Trick. The hotel was out of suites, but they allowed me to pick a room with a fantastic view and also gave me a complimentary bottle of champagne. I was satisfied even though it wasn't a suite upgrade! |
