| By: Roy Approached the front desk with my family, all of us were invited guests. My sister in law asked for upgrades and the clerk said "let me check what discounts I can find for you..." he then asked us for our ID's and CC, I slipped him my ID/CC with $20 trick and asked if there were complimentary upgrades available... The bill disappeared in a new york minute and he said "let me see what I can do for you!" Our rooms were all on the same floor facing the strip. Will definitely do again in future trips. Our clerk was a male in his mid 20's, very accomodating and professional. | ||||||||||
| By: Luke S Worked like a charm! | ||||||||||
| By: recessISon Checked in @9:00am. The trick worked like a charm. Interesting fact-my friend paid for a bella suite room and we checked in at the same time. I told him about the trick, but he didn't do it. In the end, I paid less, my room was on the 22nd floor and his was on the 5th. I was able to check in @9:00am and his room was not ready until the early afternoon!! Awesome. | ||||||||||
| By: Sean Originally purchased a standard room for three nights at Venetian through Hot Wire. When I checked in I had a $20 between my credit card and ID and asked if there were any complimentary upgrades. She did not immediately see the $20 but when she did she smiled and got to work. My wife and I were put onto the 37th floor at Palazzo with a Strip view, which gave us a great perspective of the Treasure Island show and Fashion Show Mall (and north up LV Blvd). Like Ben from July, I do not know if this was an upgrade or not compared to the original Venetian room we had booked but I will try this again when we return to Vegas. | ||||||||||
| By: Melissa We arrived late and there was a small check in line. Gave the clerk $20 between my ID and credit card and asked if a view was available. I was given the choice between a smoking room in the Venetian tower or a non-smoking room in Venezia tower. We took the Venezia tower. The room was on the 11 floor and had a beautiful view of the pool. | ||||||||||
| By: MLC Gave the young man at front desk the sandwich and asked for any complimentary upgrades that were available. He gave us 42nd Floor Palazzo looking straight down at Palazzo pool and Treasure Island Pirate Battle. Also, gave us some nice discount coupons although we may have got those anyway. Well worth it. | ||||||||||
| By: Don When I walked up to the counter, I had a $20 bill tucked between my AmEx and drivers license and asked to be upgraded to the Venezia. The clerk said he would do his best. After a few minutes of clicking, he handed us a key, said "here you go." and we were off to the room. Only when we got to the room, did we figure out we were in an older room that overlooked a bunch of rooftop airconditioners and a parking garage. Several lights were out and the room was beaten up. Not in the Venezia. | ||||||||||
| By: Boby BTW, this was at the PALAZZO!! (The newer Venetian) We got moved from the 10th floor, crappy view,1 king, to 47th floor, 2 queens, strip view, and we got a mini fridge comp'd for 3 nights as well. The $50 was for 2 rooms, so for $25 per room we got upgrades that would have cost about $250 per night, very pleased! | ||||||||||
| By: D This is for the Palazzo. I gave my CC and ID with no money in between to a young gentleman. I asked for a complimentary upgrade and there were none since all rooms are suites, but he did put me in a full strip view room on the 45th floor. The view was simply stunning. I gave the $10 just to say thanks. I only had great experiences at the Venetian and now the Palazzo. Thanks | ||||||||||
| By: Ben I purchased a standard room for 3 nights on hotwire at the Venetian, slipped the receptionist a 20 between the cards and they smiled and sort of laughed to them self. A lot of furious typing and they came up with a room in the Palazoo with a very nice view of the strip. Perfect view of Treasure Island show. Not sure if this was an upgrade or not seeing as how I don't know what room I would have gotten anyways at the Venetian and it probably doesn't cost anymore to get a room on a higher floor...the receptionist left the 20 on the counter until I agreed to to the upgrade and then pocketed it and said thank you. Overall I was happy with the room I got and would try this again. | ||||||||||
| By: Ron We were actually staying at the Palazzo. I had found this site by accident, but was intrigued by what I read. So we tried it too. My wife and I were spending our 15 year anniversary so I told the person at the check in and asked for him to check and see if there were any complimentary upgrades. I sandwiched the $20 dollar bill between my driver's license and credit card but made it easy to see. He said, I'll do some checking so keep this (the bill) just for now. He asked if we would like to be on the 34th floor with a partial view of the strip (Looking North) and a view of the pools. We said, YES PLEASE! He was very nice and I gave him the twenty. It works. It really works! Our room at the Palazzo was very nice! We figured it only cost an extra 7 dollars a day to do this. Ron, Moore, OK | ||||||||||
| By: Tim Counter lady asked if I needed change, and I said no and said we'd like something with a strip view. (not interested in further upgrades as we wanted a king bed and the next two levels up are both 2 queens). Worked great, got a great suite. | ||||||||||
| By: Kris This worked for me. When I went to the front desk and asked for my ID, I put the $20 bill between my credit card and drivers license and handed it to her. I asked "Are there any complimentary upgrades available?" She immediately understood and upgraded me to a Venetian Luxury with View. I got a nice room with a very cool view of the Mirage and Treasure Island! | ||||||||||
| By: Colleen V Wow, this worked like a charm! I just placed the 20 btwn my two cards like some others suggested. I told the girl I would prefer two Queen beds and she went ahead and booked us a suite at The Palazzo with two Queens and a pool view. Also - I give the Palazzo 5 stars - it's wonderful! | ||||||||||
| By: Ted Not only did we get the upgrade to a strip view (worth approx $150), we also got a late checkout... 2PM. Also there were two guests on the room but we were able to attain 6 room keys | ||||||||||
| By: Carrie We had a very nice male desk clerk, chatted with him a bit, and did the $20.00 trick. I asked for a view and ended up in a Piazza suite with a view of the mountains and pool. Well worth $20! | ||||||||||
| By: Shinji Three of us were initially to stay at a room with one king size bed (650 sq ft), but after using this trick, we got upgraded to the Bella (750 sq ft with two queen size beds) at the new Venezia tower. The guy at the front desk said if we were to pay for this upgrade it would of costed us 65$ per person per night. | ||||||||||
| By: Joshua worked like a charm. Got a larger room, bathroom, immaculate view and $50 slot credit w/other coupons. | ||||||||||
| By: Elizabeth Wanted a room with a view but didn't want to pay the extra 30 a night listed on site. Gave the nice girl my 20 with the card & ID & asked if there were any comp upgrades available, specifically something with a view. She checked and said there was one on the 31st floor & it was ready then (even though we arrived before check in). She also asked when we wanted to check out & moved that time back for us as well. View was very nice. Could see some of the strip & mountains in distance. | ||||||||||
| By: nahood didn't work at the Palazzo. desk person returned the $20 and said cannot accept tip for upgrade, only for service. | ||||||||||
| By: Alex The hotel was pretty packed this weekend, and initially the hotel clerk was apologetic and said she didn't have any rooms to upgrade us to, but she would if she could. We said we understood and chatted with her, and after a few minutes she went to the back to see if there was anything she could do. She ended up finding a room with a partial strip view towards Trump, and a nice view of the pool. | ||||||||||
| By: Marko And it works at the airport ! I asked for a seat with more space ... hoping to get a seat at the emergency exit , and i got it .. and no one beside me , the whole flight back to germany ! | ||||||||||
| By: gk I approched the guy at the reception and gave 20$ between by booking voucher and a passport and asked if there are any upgrades available foc. He checked my booking and upgraded to bella view suite and also offered a girl for a nght for another 20$. I humbly fetch 20$from my wallet and took no time in giving him. | ||||||||||
| By: Carol Booked the bella regular room on their website, upon arrival placed my $20 between my ID and Credit Cards and asked if there were any available upgrades, and was told that there wasn't anything available in a larger room but she could give me the Strip View on the 23rd floor which would have been 40 dollars more a night. Even though we were not in the Venzia tower, we still got turn down service and an AMAZING view!!! | ||||||||||
| By: Larry No problems. Worked like a charm. This was my second successful attempt at the Venetian for an upgrade and both times was upgraded to an 1100 Sq. ft. suite. | ||||||||||
| By: chris Reserved the cheapest room on line through the Venetian web site ... upon check in put a folded $20 between id and credit card ... the guy asked if I wanted change... I said no, but wanted to know if there were any upgrades available? He checked for a minute and boosted us to the 32nd floor with a view of the mountains, airport and the strip. He went on to say that this was an extra $50/ night. It was worked! | ||||||||||
| By: Robin I am sending this from my suite at the Venetian looking out at the Strip, pool, mountains and a beautiful sunrise. This is my first time trying the $20 trick and it worked like a charm. I booked the lowest rate I could find which was $159/day for the weekend and $119 for weekdays. Got to the Venetian about 6:00 PM Friday, gave my ID and credit card to the desk clerk and asked for a room on an upper floor with a view of the mountains. It seems kind of silly to hide a tip since the hotels must know of this practice so while he started checking I placed a $20 on the counter in plain view. He spent several minutes typing away, checking his map of the property and looking for a suitable match. He found a room on the highest floor (32) without going into the larger suites and told me that normally the upgrade charge for my suite is $45/night but mine would be complimentary. | ||||||||||
| By: Mike Young girl at reception - I offered a folded 20 dollar bill between CC and passport with the bill just visible. As I handed the 'sandwich' - I asked if there were any complimentary upgrades available, she replied ''I will check your reservation sir'' at the same time she flicked the 20 dollar bill underneath the desk. I was then offered a complimentary upgrade to the Bella suite - it was a fantastic room and really enjoyed our stay - thanks to this website! :) | ||||||||||
| By: V my friend called me up the same day and told me the trick worked and got him to 31st floor. i tried i got up to the 21st floor i had the view of the pools, TAO, TI, and Mirage. i could see the night club , and the Ti Show at nice. two 42inch plasma in the room, 4 pillows, and more. it was well worthed. also my friend told me some guy was asking for an upgrade and they told the guy it would be an extra 100.00 i guess he didn't do his homework. | ||||||||||
| By: Jonathan Handed the $20 between my cards and she (local named Marcela) understood right away. Click-clacked away for about 4 minutes before telling us there was nothing available, but she was able to put us on the top floor. No coupons or anything, and she kept the $20. It was a great room, but I suppose it may not be worth booking the view room as you are likely able to get it with the $20 trick, whereas we were unable to get an upgrade from the View. Will definitely try the trick again though! | ||||||||||
| By: booked room thru venetian website, then at the check in counter folded the $20 in between my cc & id, asked her if there were any free comp'ed upgraded available. she asked me what kind, told her whatever is available. she typed on her computer for a bit, got me a room on the 8th floor. she had said, if i were willing to wait, she would be able to get me a room that was on a higher floor. didn't want to wait, so just took what was available. our room was at the way end of the hallway with a view of the pool. in the end... it worked! | ||||||||||
| By: Rich Check in woman was young and new. It was a slow time in Vegas and I knew there were plenty of rooms available. Handed her the $20 between the ID and credit card and asked if there were comp upgrades available. She checked with her manager and came back offering me upgrades for a fee, which I declined. She actually kept my $20, but gave me coupons, one of which was a $25 match play/slot credit coupon, which evened things out. I had to play VP for 10 mintes and I actaully ended up winning a few bucks, but the upgrade didn't work. | ||||||||||
| By: Rich Very new person at check-in. She tried to sell me an upgrade so she obviously wan't familiar with the process. It was at a slow time of year and a slow time of evening for check-in. She kept the $20 and gave me $25 of free slot play, which I don't play, but it actually paid off so everyone was happy I guess. It's not like I suffered in a standard Venetian suite. | ||||||||||
| By: Al Got room through Priceline. Handed over $20 at checkin and asked for newly renovated and a view. Lady said she would sort me out. I got strip end of the Venetian Tower, 26th floor, was perfect, amazing views. Rooms across the hall looked onto the other tower only. The outlaws checked in a few days later (also Priceline) and got same room on 31st floor, but also a $15 slot voucher. | ||||||||||
| By: JT This was actually at The Palazzo. Went up to checkin, Asian lady in her mid 20's. I gave her my CC and ID with a $20 in between, the cards were staggered so she can clearly see what's in between. She checked my reservation and said that I'm booked for 1 king and that's when I said if its possible to get 2 Queens and she said not a problem and changed it for me. Then she asked if I wanted a suite with a view of the strip, normally its $40 more per night but for me its complimentary and if I wanted that. Also asked how many keys I wanted for the room and what names I wanted to register with the room. I'm pretty sure if I asked for a bigger suite I would have but they only had 1 suite that had 2 Queens. Maybe next time. | ||||||||||
| By: Dennis I had reserved 2 of the cheapest suites for 50% off. When I got to front of the line, I slipped 2 $20's between my cred card and dl. I asked the lady if there were any upgrades available and she was quick to look in her computer to find something. She found 2 connecting Bella suites in the private Venezia tower. The rooms werent noticeably bigger (50 sq ft) but it was nice to be in the newer tower. | ||||||||||
| By: mateo it worked! i didn't think it would work. i put the 20 in between my id and my credit card like i had read on this site and handed it to the person checking me in when she asked for it. i asked if there were any complimentary upgrades. i assumed she saw the 20 cuz i gave it to her fanned out w/ my cards. so she said she'd check....and came up with something i could upgrade for "$45/night". feeling defeated i said...no thank you. she then continued checking me in. when she looked down to verify my credit card, she then saw the 20 and looked at me and said...i'll see what i can do. lo and behold, we were updgraded to another suite which was $80/night...total 2 nights....all for 20 bucks. SWEET! | ||||||||||
| By: H & T After scoring a great $139 rate - I decided it wouldn't hurt to try slipping a $20. I went up to the 2nd floor registration because the line was so long. I sandwiched a folded $20 between my DL and CC - and after handing it to the 30yo woman - she asked if I "needed change" - I told her "No, actually, I was hoping for an upgrade - that's for you..." followed by a nice big smile. She typed away and found us a GREAT remodeled suite on the 33rd floor with a amazing view of the strip and pool areas. | ||||||||||
| By: Jerome F Worked like a charm, gave the girl the 20 and she gave me the 2 queens instead of a king (which I wanted) a suite with a strip view, newly renovated, 3 TVS, ridiculous all for $20 plus a 25 dollar match play | ||||||||||
| By: VenetianFan I'm not sure what our room is exactly called, but the descriptions match the Venezia Concierge Bella Suite (but then, we weren't in the Venezia tower but the old Venetian building). The front desk guy (looked like he was around 25-30) put me on the 32nd floor with strip view, and the room was newly remodeled. I don't think I've ever had a room this high before (or used that last bank of elevators to get to my room). Our room had two queen beds, and there were 3 flat-screen tv's in our suite: one 27" in the living room, one 32" for the bedroom, and a tiny 15" (i think) in the bathroom. From my room, we can almost see the top of the Venetian building when looking up sideways (I guess penthouses are all that's left above us?). This was on top of a complimentary 2-night stay...Overall, we were very satisfied with what we got. | ||||||||||
| By: Heidi I was a little nervous to do this as the front desk clerk seemed to be in training and there was a manager by her side. But, what the heck? It's Vegas and its only twenty bucks, right? Slipped the 20 between license and CC and asked the magic question. She looked in the computer for a bit, and then she asked the manager, can I give her this one? He took a peek, and she gave us a newly renovated suite in the 18th floor. Our view was of the pool area, the Mirage and TI. Not sure where we would have been othersise, but we wer satisfied with this room. | ||||||||||
| By: Jill Sadlak I tried to put the $20 trick to the ultimate test. In January of 2007 my boyfriend and I and his sister and her husband stayed at the Venetian. We booked the same room type (Venetian Luxury..aka no view) at the same time via their website with a promotional rate (around $129 a night if I remember correctly). We both got to the check-in desk at the same time. His sister went to one person, we went to another. I didn’t tell her I was going to try the trick, I really wanted to test it out. When he asked for my credit card and ID I had the $20 folded with the cards in the pass. I asked him if he had any upgrades they would be greatly appreciated. He said he would see what he could do. When we got to our room it looked like a pretty standard Luxury room, we were on the 23rd floor I believe. I went to check out the view and we were directly facing the strip with a view of both the volcano at the Mirage and the pirate show at Treasure Island. It was awesome. We also had turn down service and chocolates on our pillows at night. I called my boyfriends sister and they were on the 10th floor with a view of the parking garage with no turn down service. I would say it worked. | ||||||||||
