| By: EZstreet Very busy July 4th weekend. Handed the lady the 'samich' and asked for any complementary upgrades. She said hold on and I'll look. Turned the computer monitor toward and said there are no suites available. I asked if she had a nice strip view. Typed a bunch of stuff and yes she does have one. I then told her I wanted to be really 'greedy' and asked if she had any 2for1 buffets coupons. She handed me one along with my ID, CC, and the $20. I was amazed and said thank you. | ||||||||||
| By: Jonathan Strubel So this is 1st time I did the $20 trick. It worked fine. Gina at front desk was very helpful. They couldn't get me a sweet at the time though(Friday check in) She said they ay be able to Sat-Sun nights. In the meantime, she did get me a room on a higher floor with strip view, a fridge for the room with extra bottled water (you get 2 a day- we got 6) also got a late check out and coupons for free buffet and drinks at the bar as well as appetizers at one of the restaurants. Well worth the $20 investment. FYI-we never got around to going back on Saturday about the room change. We were having too much fun :) | ||||||||||

Since they were close to capacity, told me that he couldn't upgrade both my rooms to a suite, but moved me to the top floor, gave me a fistful of coupons and also gave me an upgrade of one room to a suite for $30/night more, a great deal. | ||||||||||

| By: Chris I initially thought the trick didn't work but now that I think about it, I guess it did. Checked in on a slow sunday afternoon with a young woman. Slipped her the sandwich and asked for an upgrade and she took the cash, said there was no upgrade available and then said she put us on a higher floor with a strip view. She also gave us some extra buffet coupons that saved us about $30 or so...I guess it did work! | ||||||||||
| By: slaman Worked great... clerk saw the sandwich as I made small talk. Told him it was our first time at the Monte Carlo and that we were hoping he could give us a great room. He took the sandwich, said thank you very much, and said he'll find us a great room and see what coupons he can throw in. We got placed on floor 31 (10 ft ceilings) out of 32, and were given a corner room facing the strip. He also gave us a bunch of coupons, including 3 2-for-1 buffet coupons! Great work! | ||||||||||
| By: Egon I had booked this trip under their "Summer 2 for 1" promotion. Walked up to a younger, female clerk. Put the $20 between the ID and AMEX card. I asked if there were any complimentary upgrades. She took it, said she could get me an upgrade to the Spa Suite; same price. Was on the 29th floor, facing the Strip (looking at MGM and south end). | ||||||||||
| By: Scott Clerk was female, she didn't have even the king bed we had reserved so we had two doubles. Said there was nothing she could do. Gave back the twenty! So nothing ventured noting gained and in this case nothing lost but...poor quality and bang for you buck hotel. I go to vegas monthly and will be keeping to the Mandalay or MGM or Paris | ||||||||||

| By: Shannon Handed over the $20 sandwhich to John and he immediately knew what it was. He searched all over for suites but kept coming up empty handed. There were also no more strip view king beds so he offered us 2 queens for one night and set it up to switch rooms to a king for the rest of the trip. We also were on a higher level which meant less elevator stops! | ||||||||||

| By: Ellen Our first time trying the $20 trick and it was a big disappointment. Granted that it was Rodeo/De la Hoya fight weekend, but the girl (Evelyn) just pocketed the money, thanked us and that was about it. We asked if there was any complimentary upgrades, she typed around a bit and said that the current night is fully booked, but for $200 and $150, we can get upgrades for the next two nights. The worst part of it is, she checked us into a room on a low floor where the windows were so dirty, we could barely see outside. When we were taking a shower, water was spraying at us from the side of the pipes and the towels all had stains on them. My husband called right away to complain the next morning and they upgraded us for the rest of our vacation to one fo the top floors with a view of the strip. The moral of the story is don't bother wasting your $20 on a cheap hotel like The Monte Carlo where they will just pocket your money. Just call and complain cause there will be something wrong with the room and they will just upgrade you for free. | ||||||||||
| By: Alvin Sandwiched the $20 between ID and CC, asking the lady "Wondering if you can get me a complimentary upgrade", she took the 20 and put it next to the keyboard and said "I'll see what I can do". After a little chat with her about the new Town Centre that they're building next door, she said she couldn't do the upgrade because it was full, she said she would if she could. But she gave us a strip view on the 28th floor instead, and gave the money back to me. So I guess it kinda did work | ||||||||||

She gave me some BS about no comp suites avaiable and then offered a pretty good discount on two different suites (about $25 per night less than what they were going for.) When I declined, she offered the same category room that I had booked, but on the 32nd floor (Penthouse floor) for $35 more per night. It was nice and included a 7AM-11PM food and wine service and our own concierge. So I guess it kinda worked. | ||||||||||
| By: Andrew I did get upgraded to a Strip View room, which is hardly a big deal; I get this all the time for asking, or even if I don't ask... plus, my Strip view was impaired by a construction site. Anyway, not only did I not get an upgrade, the guy pocketed my $20 after several trips to the back to ask about my request (I requested a specific room type). | ||||||||||
