| By: James Sandwiched $20, handed to reception clerk and asked about upgrades. Was offered $40/night for Red Room upgrade, I politely declined and she said she'd do it anyway. Discovered the $20 after, told her to keep it for taking the time to look for the rooms, she thanked me. | ||||||||||

CLICK CLICK , bob's yer uncle and we both had suites. Mine was a comp and MIL paid and average of $70.00 aday for 8 days. The clerk even showed us pictures of the suite and said the average price was $300 a night ( not sure if she was looking for a higher tip. Also at car rental $10.00 on top of the agreement as we walked out in the parking lot, any car we wanted except SUV. Went from Compact to luxury. Was nice. | ||||||||||

It was the fastest move of $20 to a pocket I've ever seen. She should be at the card tables, not at the registration counter. 4 days in a lovely room w view of Belliagio's fountain and wrap-around view of the strip. Cocaine and strippers till dawn. | ||||||||||

| By: Jimmy We booked our rooms online for a standard room on a recent hotel promotion. When we got to the hotel, I ask the front desk clerk if we were able to get a complimentary upgrade while I handed her a $20 bill sandwiched between my credit card and drivers license. The clerk said she will see what she can do. While she was typing away at the computer, I asked her if we would be able to get upgraded to the Red Luxury Room. The clerk replied that would cost an additional $100 per night. However, she was able to upgrade my wife and I to a room on the upper floors with a view of the pool, Eiffel Tower and the Bellagio Fountains. Definitely a well worth investment and will surely do it again the next time I'm in town. | ||||||||||

I asked if any complimentary room upgrades were available. She put my ID bundle next to the keyboard and started typing madly for about 30 seconds. Then she offered me a couple of choices (both better than my standard room reservation)--I ended up getting a Red Room on the 30th floor. | ||||||||||
| By: Danny Gonzalez (My review is for Planet Hollywood, which isn't on your list for some reason). Well, i had my doubts but it worked perfectly. Placed the 20 between ID and credit card, and handed the reservation info to the lady at the counter. She noticed the bill and set it besides her keyboard. I told her I was wondering about available upgrades, and she replied "Absolutely! I will check that for you". After checking in the computer, she told us she had a very nice room, but had only a King size bed, and told me she could have a rollaway bed setup for me (there were three of us). So I told her OK. She then told me I could request a change of rooms the next day if we weren't happy with it, and instructed us to insert room key at the elevator to access our floor, since it was a VIP floor. To my surprise she sent us to the #1 Penthouse, to a suite with a living room, WS TV, dining room for eight, a bar, fridge, ice machine, a very nice coffee machine, 1 1/2 bathrooms with shower and bathtub, TV in the main bedroom... very nice suite indeed. I will certainly try the trick when returning to Vegas! Thanks for the tip! | ||||||||||

| By: Chris I checked in at around 10pm and sandwiched my $20 between my license and credit card, leaving the bill showing. Without even giving me the chance to say anything, the woman behind the counter began asking me questions about what kind of room I'd like. King or 2 Queens? Smoking or Non-Smoking? Etc. She then informed me that she was upgrading me to their Red Luxury room, and that it was a corner room on the 27th floor. After going through all of that, she glanced down and coyly asked what the $20 was for, and I simply replied "For you, thank you so much for the upgrade". She smiled, thanked me, and that was that. | ||||||||||
| By: Jake and Elise first time in vegas and first time trying the trick, have heard lots about it from a podcast figured i had to try, got a room on a corner with a view of the belliago fountains from one side and another view from the other window had a view up the strip the other direction, overall it was worth every penny for the view since we where there for 4 nights. | ||||||||||

| By: Jesse I had originally booked a standard room for four nights (two comped nights with two nights at reduced rate). At check-in, I slipped the $20 in between my ID and CC and I was only able to utter "I was wondering if..." before the guy said "I'll see what I can do sir". He upgraded us to a Red Room on the 30th floor. Pretty nice room but the view was of absolute nothingness. Still worth it though as the bed seemed much more comfortable than those in the standard rooms. | ||||||||||

| By: Vince We got two rooms and wanted to upgrade them both. Got to the front of the line and started chatting up our person. It was my best friend's little brother's 21st birthday and we told her that. Gave her a $50 bill and asked, "we wanted to see if there were any complimentary upgrades available?" The girl saw the tip and put my card and ID to the side and just started typing away. After a LOT of typing (always a good sign), she said, "you're in luck, we are able to upgrade both room to our deluxe rooms that have a little more room and a view of the Strip. Since we were at the Paris, we knew it meant a view of the Bellagio Fountains (but they can't say that). She also put us on the upper floors so we were WAY above to Strip! | ||||||||||

| By: Greg I was staying one night in a comped standard room. Upon check-in I asked if there were any suites available. I didn't sandwich the $20 between my DL and CC just held it in my other hand to make it viable to the young woman. After doing some searching she found us a room (750P to be exact) on the 7th floor. After giving us the keys I gave her the money. The funny thing is that she asked if I wanted change for the $20. I told her that it was a tip for her. In afterthought maybe I could have gotten the upgrade free. Great room and glad I did it. | ||||||||||

Before I had even finished my sentence she stated how the were no free upgrades and went on to list the prices for all the various upgrades I could pay for. Our reserved room was on a lower floor facing the back and we ended up with a recently renovated and larger room on the 28th floor (33 total in hotel) with a fantastic view of the fountains and of the Eiffel Tower. This set the tone for a great trip. | ||||||||||

Since we needed a smoking room, we were offered a King suite with a Bellagio view which turned out to be a Calais Suite with a spectacular view of the fountains, Eiffel Tower and pool! | ||||||||||
| By: shartz I owe this site for this information, so I'll post my successful experience here. I stayed at Planet Hollywood. It wasn't in the dropdown list to select so I put Hotel Paris. Basically I had my $20 bill pre-placed between my CC and ID on the ride to the hotel. I walked up to the front desk by myself said hello etc... and just handed them my CC and ID together. I didn't say anything or ask about complimentary upgrades. I think most front desks are aware of the $20 Trick and they recognize when CC and ID's are given stacked together, to subtly check if there's money in between them. The person that helped me was very smooth and basically told me, he was going to put me on the 16th floor which is a resort suite with a view of the pool facing the strip. | ||||||||||

Worked like a charm, gave the guy at the registration the twenty, specifically asked if he had any "comp upgrades" available for our visit. I had checked online on upgrades for our stay and he maxed out the upgrades. Talked about how much I was going to gamble while he checked on availability and he had already prepared the keys and everything before getting the formality of approval of his mgr. Room had 100 sq feet extra space, bigger bathroom/flatscreen and a view of the strip. | ||||||||||

She offered a high standard view room... but I asked specificall for a suite (no go) or a newly renovated "P room" with plasma, etc. When I got specific, she quickly got me the room I wanted.... it wouldn't be ready for 2 hours and I frowned, so she got me a Bellagio fountain view P room on the 27th floor right away. | By: Jerry The clerk took the $20 happily and apologized that he couldn't give us a suite (P room) saying something about gettin scrutinized more on the suites nowadays, but he did give us our choice of 2 rooms with nice view. My wife chose the one on the 17th floor before I could open my mouth, but it was all about pleasing her anyway and we were quite satisfied. She's been to Vegas several times before we married and never had a room with a view before. Thanks for putting up this website. | ||||||||||

| By: Kim Arrived very early (7am) and waited to check in because nobody was trying to check in and thought we would have a better chance for a good upgrade. Checked in around 10am and set my license and CC with $20 bill visible between the two cards on the counter. I asked nicely if they had a red room upgrade available and right away she said "I don't think that will be a problem". She then noticed the $20 bill and asked what that was for... I told her "thats for you" she smiled, said thank you and informed me she put us in a corner "p" room that was renovated. The room had two large windows on either side of the room and lots of extra space... not to mention the 50" lcd hd tv and we had a straight view of the bellagio fountains on the 26th floor! Will tip the front desk from now on! | ||||||||||
