| By: Jon Checked in around 4 PM on Sunday for 3 nights. Went to first available clerk. Handed clerk the sandwich and asked for any complimentary upgrades. She swiftly pocketed the money and worked at getting me an upgrade. She came up with a corner room (windows on the south and east sides of the room with views of the pool and mountains) on the top floor of the paradise tower. Not a huge upgrade, but definitely worth the $20, as pool view rooms are at least $20 more per night. The trick works again! | ||||||||||
| By: Geoff Slipped the guy a $10 and 2 $5s in between the credit card and my license and asked if there were any complimentary upgrades. He moved me to the newer tower and gave me a room with a pool view. The rooms in the newer tower are bigger, nicer and cleaner, and the pool at the hard rock is something to see. Great investment. | ||||||||||
| By: Duncan Lady smiled when handing over the sandwich - think she gets it a lot. Asked if any complimentary upgrades available, and she asked where we wanted to be. Asked for a high room with a fountain view, and that's what we got. From their website it appears our upgrade is almost double the cost of the standard room we booked. 2 night stay during the week. | ||||||||||
| By: Joe Was actually at Palms. Had 2 standard rooms which I prepaid through expedia. Slipped a $50 between my cc & id and asked if there were any upgrades available. She said she would see what she could do, upgraded both of us to suites, but was insistant the one specific room was for me. It was a corner quite on the 18th floor, about 1250 square feet. It was amazing!!! | ||||||||||
| By: johan Worked liked a charm. Got young girl in her 20's, did the 20$ trick and got pool upgrade view and tons of coupons. | ||||||||||
| By: nahood paid $20 and got a room that would have cost $300 more during length of stay. | ||||||||||
| By: Angelo The way I did it; I put my entire bankroll on the counter in front of me where the clerk could see it (nice stack of hundreds)When I handed license and cc I asked if any upgrades were available and I started thumbing through the stack of money. He immediately checked and said "I'm sorry but I don't have any suites, the best I can do is give you a pool view." I took the pool view room and handed him a 20 as he gave me my stuff back. i would have given hime more if he gave me a suite and I think he sensed that which is why he apologized when there were no suites. | ||||||||||
| By: Bevo Slipped it in when she asked for a credit card and id. She was quite happy to receive the tipand said"I am going to take very good care of you" | ||||||||||
| By: Jon Checked in about 8 PM on a Friday night. Slipped $20 between ID and credit card, and asked for "complimentary upgrade." Clerk checked for upgrade and gave it to me. I'm not even sure she saw the $20, as she later said "Aw, you didn't have to do that." Still, I was happy to spend the money, as the room was very nice, with living room, couch, fully stocked mini-bar and great view of pool and strip. This was a pretty slow weekend in Vegas (2 weekends before Christmas), so not sure if this will work all the time, but I was certainly happy. | ||||||||||
| By: Brett When the front desk clerk asked for my credit card, I handed it to her with a $20 bill wrapped around it and asked her to check for any complimentry upgrades. She laughed a little and said "Everybody has to try that." She then checked the computer and upgraded me to a room with a nice view of the pool and the Vegas Strip. She also apologized when she informed me that they didn't have any suites available at the moment. | ||||||||||
| By: Jeffrey Kreshtool I went to the Hard Rock check in, flashed the $20 and asked "do you have any complimentary upgrades?" The woman helping me said let me take a look. She said she could upgrade me to a stuite but there was only one bed in the room (we had four guys sharing the room so that wouldn't work.) I told her that didn't meet our needs. She said the only other thing she could do is upgrade us to a Pool View Room. Which I accepted. She said the usual charge for this upgrade is $50 per night. Usually I don't care much about the view but I had the chance to compare it to the other side of the hotel and it was definitely worth $20. | ||||||||||
| By: Hooper It pays to be personable! We checked in at 6pm and were very friendly and personable. Buiding a raport makes a difference. $50 got us a nice suite for 5 nights! | ||||||||||
| By: Howard I have tipped the check-in person several times over the years and have always been put in a pool view room which is really worth it if you remember binoculars! | ||||||||||
