Since we had 2 room reserved, I thought I would up the ante to $50. Young gal at front desk immediately returned the $50 and said we could upgrade for x amount per night. I was so impressed with her honesty that I insisted she keep a $10 tip.

Checked in with a nice gentleman at the front desk. Wrapped the $20 around the credit card and ID and asked if there were any complimentary upgrades available. "Sure, I can do that for you." He knew what was up. Got upgraded from the Standard Room to the Jacuzzi/Spa room, which was like a $50/night upgrade!

Done this here before with mixed results. I think it depends on the experience of the clerk and how busy the hotel is. As it is, this is MArch Madness week and many people are our on spring break. Often, the clerks don't know what to do. Or then go off to ask a manager what can be done. I usually tell them (truthfully) that I've stayed here many times, etc. But they can't apparently see this on their screen. This time, the clerk went and did the manager thing and came back, gave me back my $20, and told me that he could upgrade me for an extra $20 a night (the standard rate). I said no thanks and just kept my basic room with it's uncomfortable chairs.

So We went to check in minding you our other friends have already checked in earlier that day. i got this nice gentleman wearing aviators kinda older i slipped the 20 in between my id and credit card and said is their any complimentary upgrades he said we will see what we can do.. Gave me the 20 buck gave me an upgrade to the 24th floor widescreen room beautiful view.. While our friends were still in the standard room we went to check it out it was not that good... it was like motel 6 and ours was much better.. So we went down and see if we could be across from each other in rooms and the one lady would not do it and then man that helped me was like here let me take care of this so he did all of his work and we ended up both being in a wide screen room across the halls from each other!! It was amazing

Was nervous at first, but when my time came to step up to the desk, I slid the $20 in between my ID and credit card and the clerk smiled and whisked it away as if nothing was there. He then said he was pleased to offer me a widescreen room, with a strip view! He also included extra drink vouchers and coupon books. Worked like a charm!

I tried the 20 dollar trick and it got me no where. She was a younger girl I put the 20 between my credit card and lincense and she said what is this for. I of course asked about a compliementry room upgrade and was shot down. She returned the 20 and we got a room that they should have paid us to stay in. No luck this time but will try again when I return to vegas.

Walked up to a 20 something black female, had the twenty folded up in between my card and ID. Simply stated "I wanted to know about any complementary room upgrades" She said she'll see what she can do, typed away at the computer and then came back and said that she could get a room with a view as a free upgrade but the widescreen rooms were booked. I knew this was B.S. but I took what she offered happily and she even gave me back my twenty.

No prolems, gave the guy a neatly folded $20 with my ID and credit card and asked if there were any free upgrades available. He thanked me for the tip and eventually found a jacuzzi suite and gave us discount coupons. Good result!

Gave it a go after reading this site. Just put the $20 on the counter, made small talk, asked if the hotel was really booked, etc. Finished the paperwork and the check in guy says "Okay, here's the room you paid for and here's the room you're getting (deluxe suite)." I said "And here's the tip you're getting, thanks!" slid the $20 up to him. Thanks!

Folded a $20 and stuck it in my ID wallet. She ignored the $20. I asked if they had any complimentary upgrades. She made a phone call and told me she could upgrade me. She put my ID back on the counter with the 20 still inside and asked if it was for her. I told her it was and thanked her for her help.

Did the trick, but attendant (white female in her 50s) said no upgraded rooms were available (odd for a Wednesday). She me on the 28th (top) floor though, but this was quite pointless since there was no view - it just meant a longer elevator ride. She then said "is this a tip", and who am I to say no, so I lost the $20.

I'd heard about the $20 trick from my boyfriend and decided to try it on my trip. It worked! I slipped the folded $20 between my credit card and license and asked the clerk if there were any complimentary upgrades available. I was upgraded from the basic double queen room to a renovated double queen room, with a strip view of the MGM & New York New York, and a flat screen TV.

Arrived in Vegas early in the morning and checked-in at 8am. Only counter open had 3 ladies chatting behind the counter. Tried the $20 trick, only to have the (new?) staff turn to ask the manager(!!!) behind her about possible upgrades. The answer was obviously "Yes, if you pay". She upgraded us to a supposedly better room (didn't feel that way). Wasted a good $20!

I reserved two run of the house base level rooms with an interconnecting door. I wrapped 2 $20.00s around my driver’s license and requested flat screen TV interconnecting rooms with a view of the strip. This would be a double upgrade. The rooms were interconnecting on the 25th floor with a fantastic view of the Luxor and Mandalay bay, very successful.

My girlfriend and I got to Excalibur pretty early in the morning. (9:30am) Too early for checkin. Came back around 11:30 or noon. Tried the trick w/ a middle aged woman. She took the $20 and said most suites aren't available til later in the day. She said she could give us a room w/ a nice view of the Luxor. We figured ok. Got to the room (in the older tower not renovated) Hated from the start. Nice view of Luxor but strait out of the 70s. When the bellhop came up w/ our bags, he asked how everything was, if we needed tickets to shows, etc.. Told him that we were a little disappointed w/ the room. We said it was our anniversary and that I had tipped the front desk woman and we were hoping for a little nicer room. He got on the rooms phone and put a call into a friend of his at the front desk. 3 1/2 mins. later he took our bags and us downstairs got us a new key and up to the newly renovated tower over looking the 4 pools. Room had granite in bathroom and a nice flat screen on the wall. (Didn't have high def) but still beat the pants out of the first room. I gave the guy $20 bucks and we both thanked him repeatedly. This guy was really cool and helped us have a great trip. He also gave us free passes to a few clubs. I know you can get these almost anywhere in Vegas, but he was great anyway.

We booked a regular room using Orbitz.com for two nights for $159 total. Upon check-in, we simply asked if there were any new widescreen rooms available, and we were told yes, for an additional $20/night. While we were talking it over, the guy just said that he'd help us out for free.

Check in around 5pm, no line up, I inquired as to the opportunity for an upgraded room and the response was affirmative. I asked if it had a view and it did not. One did not have the opportunity to pick the check in staff as you were directed to the next person. I already had the $20 under my credit card. The Excalibur was great, I have no issue staying there again. Our room was at the end of the hall, for me that is great. Amenities in the bathroom , pillow top mattress and clean room as well as the 42" plasma TV helped.

Check in around 1pm...got a africian/americian male in his mid 30s..i did't think i would have much luck getting upgraded from (2)room that i had to book(one rooom was a king bed and the other was 2 double beds) whaen asked for id and cc i put the 20 between the two cards and asked if i could get an upgrade to a spa room(i new i couldn't) and he said probly not so i then said how about a widescreen room with a view....after checking the pc for at leats 5min he found 2 adjoining room in Tower II on the 23 floor. The room were great ...all redone and yes it had the 42"Plazma TV. I'v stayed at Ballys..Paris...Planet Hollywood and even Imperial Palace and the room at Excalibur was as good as the other hotels(execpt IP)if not better. I WOULD STAY HERE AGAIN!!!
